The Food and Drug Administration says it has seized a shipment of plastic lunch box sets because they failed to pass a required evaporation residue test.
According to the F-D-A, the shipment of 50 sets of the "Kakao Friends Ryan Picnic Sealed Bento Lunch Box Set" were imported from China.
They were seized after the plastic chopsticks and spoons were found to contain over 100-parts-per-million of residue after being soaked in a 4-per cent acetic acid solution for 30 minutes.
The maximum residue level is 30-parts-per-million.
The F-D-A says the residue test is conducted on food packaging, containers, or utensils containing plastic materials that come into direct contact with food.
And the F-D-A says it is now increasing the frequency with which it inspects the goods imported by the company that brought in the lunch box set.
