A public health experts is urging the government to consider a Level 2.5 coronavirus alert.
Currently the entire nation is under Level 3 restrictions, but with the epidemic situation easing, NTU professor Chen Xiu-xi suggests that a 2.5 alert should be better than going straight back to 2.
The biggest difference between Level 2.5 and 2 would be the number of people allowed to gather indoors and outdoors.
Level 2 alert allows gatherings of fewer than 100 people indoors and 500 outdoors.
Chen says a Level 2.5 warning can open for 30 to 50 people indoors so that restaurants and stores are able to resume business on a limited scale.
Noting that vaccinations of medical personnel and the elderly are picking up speed, he says the situation is on the right track and that officials can start considering downgrading the alert level gradually.
