KMT lawmakers urge the government bail out traditional industries
Posted on 2021-02-09 13:06:04
KMT lawmakers are urging the government to allocate a special bailout budget
for industries seriously devastated by the coronavirus pandemic.

Zeng Ming-zong says while the local equity market and exportations of
electronic products soared, the travel sector, which includes the airlines,
and traditional industries like fabric, steel and machine tools have suffered
huge losses.

The 2021 general budgetary plan that the Legislative Yuan has just passed and
the special funds under legislative review have a combined fund of 2 trillion
NT, and Zeng says the government should use a part of that fund for shoring
up the bruised sectors.

Chen Yu-zhen is also calling on the government to offer a new round of
subsidies for the travel sector, saying that in 2019, over 18 million
Taiwanese people went abroad, and nearly 12 million tourists visited Taiwan.

She says all those traveling disappeared last year, meaning the industry lost
some 800 billion NT in revenues.
