Pingtung police call for personal safety checks after death of hiker

Police in Pingtung are calling for people to take extra care and pay attention to their health and surroundings when hiking in high altitude places and driving in areas prone to heavy road traffic.
Their appeal comes after a female tourist in her 60s suddenly died scaling a mountain to view cherry blossoms in the area.
Police remind citizens that weather conditions are different in higher altitude places and hikers should take warm clothes and remember if there is any necessary medication they need to bring.
The incident happened on February 6, the same day a crash happened near Guchuan Bridge in Pingtung County's Wutai Township. A cyclist suffered minor injuries.
At this time of year, spring blossoms draw in crowds of people, meaning heavier traffic.
The police said drivers must pay particular attention to the road and never exceed speed limits.
