The National Communications Commission says it has ordered Taiwan Mobile to complete the recall of all of its Amazing A32 smartphones within two months and issue weekly progress updates.
The reiterated recall order comes a week after the commission first ordered the telecom provider to recall all its A32 devices and pay compensation to customers who purchased them following news that the phones had been affected by a malware problem.
The problem led to complaints from users about identity theft concerns.
The Amazing A32 smartphones are self-branded by Taiwan Mobile and are manufactured in China.
The Consumers' Foundation is also stepping up calls for Taiwan Mobile to take responsibility for the security breach
Taiwan Mobile halted sales of the A32 in July of last year.
And the Criminal Investigation Bureau later opened an investigation into the smartphones, that found that the malware had been installed during the manufacturing process.
