MOFA Protesting Taiwanese Exclusion from UN
Posted on 2018-10-12 17:12:13
MOFA says it is again protesting the exclusion of Taiwanese nationals from
observing the United Nations General Assembly.

Media reports say that Taiwanese people were barred from viewing the
proceedings because they presented Taiwanese passports or Mainland Travel
Permit for Taiwan Residents.

UN security claims that neither of those documents are recognized for UN
entry, though Chinese passports and other documents are.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it has already instructed its
representative office in New York to look into the matter.

It says it will also use other channels to express its protests to the United
Nations over the treatment of Taiwan citizens.

MOFA is calling on other like-minded countries to also denounce this behavior
and demand that the UN change its rules.
