CEC: Shen-ao Referendum To Go Ahead
Posted on 2018-10-12 16:06:13
The CEC will go ahead with a referendum despite the question being moot.

The Central Election Commission says a they will place the referendum about
the Shen-ao power plant on next month's ballot, in accordance with the law.

The CEC's statement follows the Central Government's decision to scrap its
plans to install coal-fired power generators at the facility.

Commission officials say that a referendum can only be called off if relevant
laws have been changed and the governing agency related to the referendum
question notifies the CEC to stop the vote.

The CEC says that is not the case this time, so the referendum will proceed.
