Groups seek constitutional interpretation on pension reform
Posted on 2018-06-14 09:23:14
Veterans groups and associations representing civil servants and
public-school teachers are demanding the Council of Grand Justices make a
constitutional interpretation on the government's state pension reform

The groups are claiming the planned pension cuts are unconstitutional and
will result in fewer people opting to work for the government.

The new pension system is scheduled to take effect from July 1.

And it will mean that pension plans for civil servants and public-school
teachers will be calculated based on a lower income replacement ratio.

While the preferential, and somewhat controversial, 18-per cent interest rate
on their savings will be phased out over the next three years.
