Government urging people to visit to Hualien
Posted on 2018-02-14 08:25:13
The government is urging the public to visit Hualien amid a sharp decline in
tourist numbers following last week's deadly earthquake.

Officials say many domestic travelers have canceled their bookings and train
tickets for the Lunar New Year holiday.

And there have been reports China could suspend group tours to Taiwan from
next month, after as nine Chinese tourists died in the quake.

Cabinet spokesman Hsu Guo-yong says the Straits Exchange Foundation is
looking into whether that report is true, but in the meantime the government
hopes domestic and international tourists continue to visit Hualien.

The Tourism Bureau has announced 55-million N-T in funding to support the
county's tourism industry,

While the government says it has ear-marked 30-million N-T in relief loans to
the county's hotel industry as part of the post-earthquake reconstruction
