Temperatures warm up in Taiwan on Saturday as cold surge weakens
Posted on 2018-01-13 16:07:13
Daytime temperatures started to warm up today as the cold surge that has
brought record lows to Taiwan this winter began to weaken.

Temperatures across the country are forecast to rise, with daytime highs
expected to range between 16 and 17 degrees Celsius in northern and
northeastern Taiwan, 18 and 19 degrees from Taichung to Tainan as well as
Hualien in the east, and 20 and 22 degrees in Kaohsiung, Pingtung and

The warming trend will continue into Sunday, when highs throughout Taiwan are
forecast to reach above 20 degrees.

However, even with the weakening cold surge, temperatures in southern
Taiwan's Chiayi dipped to a new low for low-lying areas this winter, with a
record 4.7 degrees measured at 6 a.m. this morning.

According to Daniel Wu, an independent meteorologist and adjunct professor
at National Central University, temperatures in the early hours on Sunday
will also likely drop to below 10 degrees for areas north of Chiayi.
