Up to 39,000 ducks culled in Pingtung after H5N2 case confirmed
Posted on 2018-01-13 16:07:13
Up to 39,000 ducks were killed after a large duck farm was confirmed to be
diagnosed with the highly pathogenic H5 subtype of the avian influenza virus
in Pingtung County.

Shih Tai-hua, deputy director-general of the Council of Agriculture's Bureau
of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine, said the ducks were
culled at a farm in Yenpu Township, which was also disinfected.

COA deputy chief Huang Jin-cheng said the virus was likely to be the H5N2
strain of the virus because the affected duck farm is located close to farms
where other H5N2 cases have emerged.
