Qualcomm fined NT$23.4billion for antitrust violations
Posted on 2017-10-12 08:19:13
The Fair Trade Commission has fined U-S based chipmaker Qualcomm 23.4-billion
N-T for violating the Fair Trade Act.

The fine is the heaviest ever handed out to a single company by the antitrust
authority.

The commission launched an investigation into whether the mobile phone
technology and chipmaker's patent licensing arrangements violated the Fair
Trade Act in February 2015.

And commission says it found the company had unfairly manipulated prices and
hampered market competition.

Regulators at the European Commission, as well as in China and South Korea,
have also filed antitrust charges against Qualcomm -- claiming it used
anti-competitive methods to squeeze out rivals.

China's National Development and Reform Commission issued a ruling in 2015
that Qualcomm had violated its anti-monopoly law.

And the following year, South Korea's antitrust regulator fined Qualcomm for
violating its antitrust laws.
