Tsai hoping private sector will also hike wages
Posted on 2017-09-14 10:49:13
President Tsai Ing-wen says a planned pay hike for public sector workers next
year is aimed at showing appreciation for their services and to spur the
private sector to also raise wages.

The government pay hike is expected to raise salaries by 3-per cent for about
580,000 civil servants and public school teachers, as well as an undisclosed
number of military personnel, and is likely to take effect from January next

According to Cabinet spokesman Hsu Guo-yong, some state-owned, state-run and
state-controlled banks and companies have already committed to a salary
increase with effect from January 2018.

The Cabinet estimates the 3-per cent pay hike will increase its annual
payroll by 18-billion NT.
