Renowned Taiwanese experimental photographer and filmmaker, Chang Chao-tang, has died at the age of 81.
His passing was announced by the "Voices of Photography" magazine on behalf of Chang's family.
A trailblazer since junior high, Chang's work was heavily influenced by surrealism, existentialism, and modernism, shaping his experimental approach.
His significant contributions to photography and film were recognized with numerous awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Golden Horse Film Festival in 2022, and both the National Award for Arts and the National Cultural Award.
Chang's legacy extends beyond his art, inspiring a generation of directors and earning him the Taiwan International Documentary Festival's outstanding contribution award.
