Italian Media Reports Vatican Chooses Taiwan Envoy

Italian media reports say that the Vatican has chosen its new envoy to Taiwan.

Daily newspaper "Avvenire", which is affiliated with the Catholic Church,
reports that the Vatican has selected Stefano Mazzotti as its new charges
d’affaires to Taipei.

The report says the Italian monsignor brings extensive diplomatic experience
to the role, and has represented Vatican interests in the Philippines,
Portugal, France and Egypt.

The post of Vatican representative to Taiwan has been vacant since January
31st, when the Holy See announced that Monsignor Arnaldo Catalan would be
leaving the island to take a new position in Rwanda.
