Premier Su Tseng-chang is vowing heavy punishment for anyone profiting from fake COVID-19 rapid tests.
Su says rapid tests are a critical part of the effort to end the COVID-19 outbreak in Taiwan, and anyone found to be making or selling faulty tests will be penalized
The premier says the Food and Drug Administration approved the manufacture and sale of at-home testing kits in order to root out hidden community infections.
But Su says in the month following the announcement, officials have seen cases of fake rapid tests being marketed s the real thing.
The premier says he has ordered relevant agencies to investigate, and will hand down strict punishment for anyone found to be profiting from such activities.
