Missing Xiaoliuqiu diver found dead after overnight search

A 34-year-old local diver was found dead early today after going missing off
Xiaoliuqiu.

Authorities say the man entered the water yesterday near the Houshi (厚石)
coral reefs.

He was reportedly heading toward offshore waters, but did not return to shore.

Pingtung firefighters received the report at 6:53 p.m. and joined Coast Guard
teams and rescue workers.

Relatives, friends, and volunteer divers also helped search the area.

The man's younger brother reported at 2:17 a.m. that he had been found about
300 meters offshore.

Officials say a fishing boat found him floating on the water, and the case
has been handed to police and his family.
