Number of Black-Faced Spoonbills in Declines for First Time
Posted on 2024-04-26 08:15:13
And finally,

The Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency says the number of black-faced
spoonbills wintering in Taiwan has declined for the first time this year.

According to the agency, an annual survey organized by the Hong Kong Bird
Watching Society shows that total of 4,135 have been spotted - and that's 93
fewer than in 2023.

However, the agency says Taiwan still has the largest population of the
endangered waterbird and the number of black-faced spoonbills wintering here
accounts for 59.2-percent of the global population.

More than 90-per cent of wintering poonbills in Taiwan have been recorded in
the southwestern part of the island, with 2,088 of them in the Tainan area.
