Taiwan's top trade negotiator John Deng says the government is seeking trade deals with more countries after seeing breakthroughs last year.
Deng told Nikkei Asia that 2023 was "a good year for Taiwan" as "solid foundations" were laid with the US, UK and Canada.
Last year, Taiwan signed three landmark deals: Taiwan-US 21st Century Trade Initiative with the United States, an enhanced trade partnership arrangement with the U-K and the finalizing of an enhanced trade partnership arrangement with Canada.
Deng said he hoped those deals will encourage other countries to be more willing to open trade talks with Taiwan.
Deng also said that "more trade agreements will strengthen Taiwan's security and contribute to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait in a meaningful way" - which aligns the wants of key players in the international community.
