6000 Servicemen Enlisted for One-Year Service

The Ministry of Defense says approximately 6,000 men have enlisted into its
one-year mandatory military service.

The announcement was made amid recent concerns over servicemen deserting,
highlighted by a specific incident where a serviceman had to be returned to
base by his parents.

Defense Minister Chiu Kuo-cheng (邱國正) emphasized the robust psychological
support system within the military, designed to aid servicemen in their
transition from civilian life.

In a legislative review session today, enhancements to these support systems
were discussed, stressing professional intervention's necessity in preventing
crises like desertion and addressing mental health concerns.

Legislators are urging for more certified professionals to ensure
servicemen's well-being.
