The Judicial Yuan highlights the urgent need for additional staff to cope with increasing caseloads and overwork among personnel.
This follows recent incidents, including a judge’s fatal fall and staff illnesses that have intensified the spotlight on judicial workload issues.
Discussions are underway with the Executive Yuan to amend the Judicial Yuan Organization Act and other regulations to allow more hires.
A recent report revealed a 28-percent increase in new cases over the past decade, with unresolved cases nearly doubling, stressing the judiciary's capacity.
The Judicial Yuan, supported by lawmakers across parties, is negotiating to lift the staffing cap currently set at 15,000 to manage the growing demand effectively, calling for the addition of more than 5-thousand-500 new hires.
