US Lawmakers Call for Taiwan's International Participation

Members of the U-S Congressional Taiwan Caucus are calling for Taiwan's participation in international organizations.
The call comes as the United Nations General Assembly session is underway in New York.
Four caucus co-chairs have released a statement, in which they slam the U-N for shutting out Taiwan - saying they strongly reject the adoption of U-N Resolution 27-58, that prohibits Taiwan from meaningful participation on the world stage.
According to the lawmakers, passage of the Taiwan International Solidarity Act in July by the U-S House of Representatives made it clear that Resolution 27-58 "did not address the issue of representation of Taiwan and its people in the United Nations or any related organizations."
In the joint statement, the lawmakers said "over the past decades, Taiwan has proven to be a responsible and reliable partner in supporting global health, expanding regional prosperity, and promoting international security."
The statement goes on to stress that as China continues to encroach upon neighbors, including Taiwan, the U-S must once again demonstrate resolute support for this strategic partner and seek Taiwan's meaningful participation in international organizations.
