The Ao-wan-da 奧萬大 National Forest Recreation Area in Nantou is now inaccessible, and there's no knowing when it can reopen again.
The Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency says the roads connecting it to the outside world were severely damaged by typhoon-triggered torrential rain.
The Agency says aerial reconnaissance has shown multiple major landslide areas and a substantial amount of soil and sediment movement, resulting in elevated riverbeds in the Wan Da River.
The outer bands of Typhoon Khanun combined with southwestern winds brought some 1,000 millimeters of rainfall to Nan-tou's Ren-ai Township last weekend, causing devastation in many places.
The Agency says in addition to fallen rocks, road cave-ins and losses of road foundation, various facilities within Ao-wan-da are destroyed as well.
Workers are doing their best to restore the roads with the hope or reopening them by the end of this month.
