National Security Bureau Chief Cai Ming-yan (蔡明彥) says his department will continue to monitor attempts by China to interfere in Taiwan's upcoming election.
Speaking at the Legislative Yuan today, Cai said the NSB is paying close attention not only to military interference, but also to economic and technological interference from the mainland.
Cai mentioned that China may attempt to use virtual currency to finance illicit operations in Taiwan, and that they may also employ disinformation and cognitive warfare in attempts to manipulate the election.
Cai confirmed that the NSB is keeping track of new technologies being used by China for these purposes, including China's own version of ChatGPT.
There are concerns that such chatbot programs may be used to direct huge amounts of disinformation and propaganda at Taiwan.
Cai emphasized that none of these operations against Taiwan, whether military, economic or technological, will be allowed to proceed unchallenged.
