New Admissions Policy for Disabled Students in Higher Education
Posted on 2024-04-25 16:43:13
The Ministry of Education has revised the admissions guidelines for students with disabilities to create a more accessible and supportive environment across Taiwan.
The Ministry is requiring all higher education institutions to provide designated admission quotas starting from the next academic year.
This move aims to align with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and to promote inclusive education.
The policy originates from systems supporting direct admissions for deaf and blind students, considering the specific needs that standard exams may not meet, such as auditory or visual impairments.
Specialized testing accommodations will be provided to evaluate the candidates fairly and place them in suitable programs.
Furthermore, the Ministry plans to support these changes through financial incentives to universities, encouraging them to increase available spots and enhance educational resources.
