International Community Radio Taipei (ICRT, FM 100) is proud to present Looking South, a new weekly news program that explores Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy. In cooperation with the Bureau of Foreign Trade, ICRT will delve into what the Policy means both for Taiwan and its international partners in the region.
The New Southbound Policy is one of Taiwan’s most ambitious international outreach programs ever, and Looking South will examine this policy close-up, and from many angles, from economics, to culture, travel, education, and much more.
Looking South debuts Monday, December 26th, when we’ll talk to Taiwan Institute of Economic Research’s Department of International Affairs Director Dr. Chen-Sheng Ho to give listeners an introduction to the Policy and what it entails. As Dr. Ho says, “our friendship with the countries in the Asia-Pacific region will certainly advance.”
Then we’re happy to kick-off 2017, as we sit down with Australian Office, Taipei, Representative Catherine Raper. She’ll join Looking South to chat about how the New Southbound Policy can further boost Taiwan-Australian ties. In subsequent weeks, we’ll talk to officials, academics, and business leaders from Taiwan and throughout the region to get their perspectives.
In addition to the weekly interviews, Looking South will also feature podcasts which can be listened to anytime on the ICRT web site and on our app, plus this blog, which will have greater information about the interviews and the New Southbound Policy.
ICRT General Manager Tim Berge says the radio station is honored to host this new program. “The New Southbound Policy is set to greatly improve relations and cooperation in the region. Plus weekly interviews on ICRT, and online, will give us a chance to explain the practical benefits of the policy to Taiwan’s local and international communities in clear and easy-to-understand terms.”
