Taiwan's First Rocket Home

Ground control: All systems are ready... Ten... nine... eight ...

Narrator: Taiwan is getting its first rocket launch site! Rockets going to
space will be launched from there.
台灣將要蓋第一座火箭發射場，之後可以從這裡發射火箭到太空。

Scientists looked at many places. They thought very hard. They needed to find
the best place.
科學家考慮過許多地點，想找個最好的。

What things make a good launch site? One: the place is big. Two: it is far
from places with many people. Three: it has no animals that must be kept
safe. Four: it is easy to build on.
蓋火箭發射場需要什麼呢?空間要大，離人群跟動物很遠，而且施工容易。

They chose a small village in Pingtung. This place has all of the things for
a good launch site. It is perfect for rocket launches!

Ground control: Seven... six... five... four...

Narrator: The launch site will take about six years to finish. After that,
rockets can take off from Taiwan!
屏東一個小鎮滿足所有條件，被選中蓋火箭發射場，六年工程後，火箭就能從台灣起飛!

Scientists also want people to learn about space. They want everyone to know
what Taiwan is doing in space. So they may build a space museum in the
village. Kids and their families could visit and learn!
科學家也會蓋一間太空博物館，幫助大家更了解太空科技。

This rocket launch site is a big step for rockets and science in Taiwan!

1. launch 發射。

2. take off 起飛。

You see the rocket take off at night, with the stars and the moon, so

3. science 科學。
Romantic? It's a rocket, not a love story! 浪漫?那是火箭，可不是愛情小說!
That's serious science. 是很嚴肅的科學。

4. space 太空。
Science can be romantic. 科學也可以浪漫。
Big engines, big dreams. 大引擎，大夢想。
And a big outer space too. 還有好大的外太空。

會變顏色的環保油漆
Hot or Cold? This House Knows!

What color do you want your house to be?

Can't decide?

How about one that changes color!

A man named Joe bought a new house in New York.

He wanted to make it good for the environment.

He wondered what color he should paint the house.

Black would help keep the house warm.

White would help keep the house cool.

把房子漆成黑色，會有利於保暖，漆成白色，可以幫助室內保持涼爽。

Then Joe thought, "Why can't a house be black in the winter, and white in the
summer?"

But that means he would have to paint his house two times every year.

That's a lot of work!

Then Joe had a fun idea...

He remembered he had a ring when he was a kid.

It was a mood ring.

The ring changes color with your body's temperature.

Joe thought, maybe he could make a paint that does the same thing.

So he worked really hard.

He tried out lots of different chemicals (化學物品).

Finally, he made a special paint that changes color when it gets hot or cold.

When it's cold outside, the paint is dark gray.

When it's warm, the paint gets lighter.

Joe says this paint could help people save energy.

It could help people use less heating (暖氣) and air conditioning (冷氣).

So it's great for the planet AND your wallet.

And Joe says the paint can be any color.

It can go from dark blue to light blue...

Or from red to pink.

Joe says his paint won't fix all climate change.

But it's a small step.

And he thinks all small steps are important!
