Volcano in Iceland Erupts

Oh no, earthquake! Everyone, quickly get to a safe place!

Phew. That was a big earthquake.

Hopefully there won't be any more.

Earthquakes are scary, especially when there are a lot of them.

Did you know that Iceland recorded more than forty-thousand earthquakes over
three weeks? 冰島在三週內有記錄的地震多達四萬多次！

That's a lot of earthquakes in a very short amount of time! I would be so
scared!

And guess what happened after all those earthquakes?

There was a volcanic eruption in Iceland! 地震後冰島的火山就爆發了!

Yep, after all those earthquakes, a giant volcano erupted in Iceland.

The volcano was dormant - or asleep - for 800 years, but it decided to wake
up again on March 19 of this year.

Then lava started coming out of it!
睡了八百年的火山，今年的3月19號就醒來了，然後岩漿也開始流出來！

Thankfully, nobody got hurt.

But a lot of people who lived in Iceland said the sky was glowing red from
all that hot lava leaking out of the volcano.
冰島的居民說因為岩漿的關係天空也都變紅色的。

I hope there aren't any volcanoes in Taiwan that will suddenly wake up!

That would make me even more afraid of earthquakes!

Messi's Record Breaking Boots

Woo! I love football! There aren't many better feelings than scoring a goal.

There is one player who has had that feeling a lot more than most.

His name is Lionel Messi.

Lionel Messi is a footballer who plays for Barcelona in Spain.

But Messi isn't just any footballer, he's won the best player in the world

He has broken record after record, and he's scored a lot of goals.

Actually, back in December, Messi broke another record that has been around
for 46 years held by Brazilian footballer Pele.

40 Timeless Days in a Cave

Woah! This is interesting.

15 people stayed inside a cave for 40 days.

And...the cave was very deep and completely dark!

There was no natural light in the cave! 有15個人在一個沒有光線的洞穴裡40天

The people inside could not know if it is daytime or nighttime!

They used electric lamps, but they couldn't bring a watch or a phone into the

Why did they do this? Well, scientists want to learn more about time.

Time is very important for people.

We can use a watch to tell time, but even without a watch, natural light

Taiwan's Best Ever Olympics

Hey! Did any of you watch the Olympics this summer? 你們有沒有看奧運？

The Olympics has many different events and many of the world's most amazing
athletes go to compete for medals.
世界上最強的運動員，都想參加奧運比賽，爭取獎牌。

People that win events get gold medals. People that come second get silver
medals. And people that come third get bronze medals. 第一名會得到金牌,
第二名銀牌, 第三名銅牌。

Winning an Olympic medal must be an amazing feeling.

And guess what? This summer's Olympics was the best ever for athletes from

Whistle Languages

Can you whistle? 你會吹口哨嗎? I can! Well… I'm not very good at it.

It's not easy to learn how to whistle. Some people can't do it… they can't
whistle.

But other people can whistle very well… and some people even use whistling
as a language! 有人把吹口哨當成一種語言。

It's true! There are people that sometimes whistle to talk to each other.

Why? Well, whistling is louder than shouting 口哨比用喊叫還大聲。

And whistling is clearer. You can hear whistling more clearly than shouting.

The whistles can mean different words... a high whistle sound means one
thing... and a low whistle sound has a different meaning.

After a lot of practice, people can learn to understand this new language… a
