Glasses Help Deaf People See Words

Hi students! Can you imagine being deaf? Talking to people would be really
hard if you couldn't hear anything.
聽不見的時候，應該很難了解別人在說甚麼。

Some people can talk to deaf people using their hands. This is called sign
language. But not many people know how to sign.
有一些人可以用手語溝通，但不是很多人會。

Now, to help deaf people, someone has made some very special glasses. They
let you read what other people are saying! These glasses are great, they're
like watching a movie with subtitles!
現在有人發明一副眼鏡，可以讓你像看電影的時候的字幕一樣，看到別人說的話。

The glasses work because of smartphones. Smartphones hear the words people
are saying. Then they write the words down, and send them to the glasses for
people to read.
手機聽到別人說話的時候，就會把字打出來，再傳到眼鏡上。

A man from England called Dan got the idea while watching his grandfather on
Christmas Day. Dan's grandfather was lonely because he couldn't hear what
people were saying.
有一個叫做 Dan
的人發明了這個眼鏡，因為有一年的聖誕節，他看到爺爺因為聽不見，沒有辦法了解別人在說甚麼，而感到很寂寞。

But now, thanks to these glasses, his grandfather won't feel lonely anymore!
現在呢，有了這個眼鏡，爺爺就不再感覺到寂寞了！

Now, all deaf people need are these new glasses, and they can talk to lots of

Store Uses Robots to Deliver Coffee

Hi, students! Let's talk about robots. Lots of companies use robots.

There is even a convenience store in Taiwan that uses robots. It's in
Kaohsiung. The store in Kaohsiung is testing robots to deliver coffee.
高雄有一間便利商店，用機器人送咖啡！

This robot doesn't look like a person. It looks like a cart. It is a cart
with wheels that can travel inside and outside to deliver coffee to people.
它看起來不像人，像手推車，下面還有輪子。

Why is this cart a robot? It can move on its own. It doesn't need people to
push it. The robot cart can even take an elevator by itself!
這個機器人會自己動，不用人家推，還可以自己搭電梯！

This robot can deliver up to 24 orders at once. To deliver that many coffees
with a human would cost a lot of money, but this store in Kaohsiung thinks
using robots will be much cheaper. Which means food and drink could be
cheaper too!
這個機器人一次可以送24份餐， 店家說在人力成本上能夠省下很多錢！

That's pretty cool. There is also a convenience store in Hsinchu that is
testing a different kind of robot. This one is a flying robot. This flying
robot is called a drone.
新竹也有一間便利商店，是用機器人，但這個機器人是無人機。

The store wants to use drones to deliver things to people who live in rural
areas. Do you know what another name for "rural" is? It's the countryside.
The drones could help people living in the countryside a lot.

Solar-Powered Computer Cockroaches

What's that? A cockroach?! Ahhh!

I don't like cockroaches, how about you? You don't like them either, right?

You know, some animals can help people. Dogs can help find lost people or
help the police catch bad guys.

Now scientists have found a way for cockroaches to help people too! Thanks to
a super tiny computer.

This little computer is like a mini backpack. It controls the cockroach's
legs. They also put a tiny solar panel on the cockroach's back to power the
computer!

Cockroaches are very good at getting into small places, and if scientists can
control them, they can use them to go into super small spaces.

Electric Airplanes Tested in America

Bus Stops For Bees and Butterflies

Hi students! You guys know that bees are important, right?

They help plants grow. Butterflies also help plants grow. If we didn't have
bees and butterflies, we wouldn't grow as much food. The world would be in
big trouble then.
