Cleaning the Earth's Air
Do you help clean your home? Maybe you vacuum dust from your floor.

Hmmm... What can we do to help clean the Earth, everyone's home? The Earth's
air has too much carbon dioxide. This is bad. Carbon dioxide makes the Earth
warmer. It comes from cars, factories, and us! We breathe out carbon dioxide.
那我們該怎麼打掃我們的家園地球呢？空氣裡有太多二氧化碳讓地球更熱。汽車、工廠甚至是我們都會產生二氧化碳。

Well, we can't stop breathing! How about vacuuming? Some companies are
vacuuming carbon dioxide from the air!
我們不能不呼吸，那如果把它吸走呢？有一些公司把二氧化碳從空氣中吸走。

These vacuums are VERY big. They cost a lot to make and use.
這種吸塵器很龐大，而且需要很高的成本製作跟使用。

The biggest vacuum now is in Iceland. Every day, it vacuums one hundred tons
of carbon dioxide. Then the carbon dioxide goes down, down, down into the
Earth. It becomes rock there! And it's there forever! This is good!
最大的吸塵器在冰島，每天會吸一百噸的二氧化碳到地底下變成岩石。

But... that's not very much carbon dioxide! Eight thousand cars make this
much carbon dioxide. The air has a lot more carbon dioxide.
但是吸走的二氧化碳還不夠，8000台車就可以產生一百噸的二氧化碳。
Companies are building bigger vacuums! But we can't put vacuums everywhere!
We have to make less carbon dioxide too!

Will Taiwan Have Longer, Hotter Summers?
Oh boy, it's so hot. Let's go for a drive to cool down.
天啊，真的好熱。我們去開車兜風。

Ugh. There are so many cars on the road. Hey, we need to get some gas!
路上有好多車，而且我們還需要加油！

Summers are hot in Taiwan. We turn on air conditioners to cool down. Maybe we
go for drives and use gas. When we do these things, we use fossil fuels.
台灣的夏天真的很熱，我們都會開冷氣或是開車出去兜風，都會用到化石燃料。

What happens if our fossil fuel use doesn't change? Climate change will make
Taiwan's summers hotter and longer.
如果我們不減少化石燃料的使用，氣候變遷會讓台灣的夏天又長又熱。

Climate change will also bring more heavy rain. More floods will happen.
There will be fewer typhoons. But... they'll be stronger!

Longer, hotter summers, more floods, and stronger typhoons will make life
harder for everyone.

Scientists Say It's Raining More… And Less

Do your mom and dad say it's raining more? Because of climate change, it is.
Air holds more water in our warmer world.
你爸媽有說過雨越下越多嗎?沒有錯，因為氣候變遷的關係，
氣候暖化讓空氣中有更多的水分。

Scientists say it's raining much more during wet times, and much less during
dry times. And these changes are causing problems.
科學家說雨季的雨水越來越多，乾季越來越乾燥，這些變化都會造成問題。

Too much rain can cause floods. There's too much water everywhere. Heavy rain
and floods damage farmers' crops. They damage homes, roads, and bridges.
Floods keep us from leaving our homes or schools. Flood water is dirty and
can make us sick!
雨太大會造成水災，會破壞農作物、家園、道路跟橋梁，我們只能待在家裡或學校。水災的髒水還會讓人生病。

Too little rain can cause droughts. There's too little water for everything.
Droughts hurt farmers. They need lots of water to grow crops. In Taiwan,
droughts hurt some technology companies. They need lots of water to make
their products. And droughts hurt us! We need water for a healthy life!
雨太少會引起乾旱。乾旱讓農作物無法生長，也影響科技公司製作產品，還會影響我們的健康。

We can't stop floods or droughts. But we can all help Taiwan have a little
more water every day. We can take shorter showers. We can turn off the water

Too Hot for the Summer Olympics in 25 Years

Did you watch the Summer Olympics a few months ago? Paris was very hot. The
hottest days were more than thirty-five degrees! That is hot for Paris!

The Summer Olympics has many outdoor sports. The heat is hard for athletes

Flying Robots to Clean Up Mount Everest

Mount Everest is the tallest mountain on Earth. Every year, many people climb
it. But they leave a lot of trash. It makes the mountain dirty and dangerous.
聖母峰是世界最高峰，每年都有很多人去攀登，但是他們留下很多垃圾，讓聖母峰變得又髒又危險。

Sherpas show climbers where to go. Sherpas also carry trash down Mount
Everest.
當地的雪巴人會幫登山客帶路，也會把垃圾帶下山。

That's an avalanche! This can make a lot of ice, dirt, and rocks go down the
mountain very fast. It can kill people! Carrying trash down the mountain is
very dangerous!
雪崩很可怕，如果崩塌，會帶著很多冰、泥沙跟石頭，快速往下衝，把人活埋，在這種時候帶著垃圾走下山非常危險!

Now there's a safer way to clean up Mount Everest! Flying robots called
drones will take trash from the mountain. Sherpas are learning how to use the
drones.

These drones are strong. They can carry a lot of trash. One drone can carry
234 kilograms in one hour! Fourteen people can carry this much in six hours!
