Highway Slowdowns Begin

Congestion is starting to build on highways, ahead of New Year's Eve
celebrations.

The Freeway Bureau says slowdowns are occuring mainly on National Freeway 1
heading south, between Hu-kou and Hsinchu, and on National Freeway 3 heading
south, between Ying-ge and Long-tan.

Officials say more traffic is expected this afternoon for National Freeway 5
heading south, between Nan-gang and Tou-cheng, but that should ease by around
4pm.

The bureau says there have also been a few reports of minor collisions on
National Freeway 1 earlier today.

The accidents caused temporary backups that were resolved within about 10
minutes, and no on suffered any serious injuries.
