The leader of Myanmar's military government is in Thailand on an official
visit.

It's seen as part of an effort to gain political legitimacy after a military
coup five years ago.

Min Aung Hlaing met with the Thai Prime Minister, and is expected to attend a
business forum during the 2 day visit.

Activists have criticized the visit, saying it lends false legitimacy to the
military government.

The Burmese president has faced diplomatic isolation since overthrowing the
democratically-elected governmnet of Aung San Suu Kyi in 2021.

Thailand, however, has maintained close ties with Myanmar's military and
advocated for renewed engagement.

While the president attempts to refurbish his image, Myanmar's military
continues to wage a brutal war across much of the country against
pro-democracy resistance fighters and armed ethnic minority groups seeking
greater autonomy.
