Gulf shipping traffic drops after claimed Houthi attacks

Shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb fell sharply
on Wednesday after Yemen's Houthis said they attacked two Saudi oil tankers.

Kpler data shows just two vessels passed through Hormuz, down from eight a
day earlier.

Before the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran began in February, around 130 to 140
ships typically used the waterway each day.

Only one vessel crossed Bab el-Mandeb on Wednesday, compared with 20 the
previous day.

The Houthis say they launched missile attacks on one tanker near Saudi
Arabia's Red Sea port of Yanbu and another in the Gulf of Aden.

Saudi Arabia has not confirmed either incident.

The Houthis say they imposed a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia last month.

Riyadh rejects the group's claims.
