Vienna Philharmonic to return to Taipei in October

The Vienna Philharmonic will return to Taipei's National Concert Hall in
October under conductor Tugan Sokhiev.

Sokhiev has also been chosen to lead the orchestra's 2027 New Year's Concert.

The first Taipei performance on October 16 will feature pianist Lang Lang in
Beethoven's Fourth Piano Concerto.

The orchestra will also perform Brahms' Second Symphony, which it premiered
in Vienna in 1877.

The October 17 program includes Mozart's Symphony Number 40 and Tchaikovsky's
Fourth Symphony.

The Vienna Philharmonic was founded in 1842 and is made up of musicians from
the Vienna State Opera.

It has operated without a permanent conductor since 1933, with its members
selecting the conductors and soloists they work with.
