Shanxi mine explosion kills at least 90 miners

A gas explosion at a coal mine in China's Shanxi province has killed at least
90 people.

Xinhua News Agency says the accident at Changzhi city's Liushenyu coal mine
occured yesterday evening.

Around 247 workers were on duty at the time.

Nine people remained trapped as of this afternoon.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation, and rescue efforts
continue.

CCTV says that many of the injured were affected by toxic gas.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for a full rescue effort and an
investigation to hold those responsible accountable.
