China coal mine explosion death toll at 82

A gas explosion at a coal mine in China's northern province of Shanxi killed
at least 82 people.

State media said dozens are trapped underground.

Xinhua reports that the accident at Changzhi city's Liushenyu coal mine
happened yesterday evening.

It initially reported that around 247 workers were trapped underground.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation and rescue work is pressing
on, according to Xinhua.
