Search underway for solo hiker missing on Zhijiyang trail since May 1

A 48-year-old woman has been missing in the mountains of central Taiwan for
nearly a week.

The hiker, surnamed Yao, set out alone on the Zhijiyang (志佳陽) trail on May
1 and was due back on May 3.

A friend raised the alarm on May 5 after finding Yao's car still parked at
the trailhead.

Taichung City Fire Bureau dispatched a four-person team to the area, and
rescuers found Yao's gear and car keys inside a mountain shelter that
afternoon.

Searches yesterday and today have so far turned up nothing, and a second
rescue team is now continuing the effort.

Mountaineering writer and YouTuber Huang Yu-hsiang (黃鈺翔) has shared the
missing person appeal on his Facebook page, "Vision of a Snow Ram."

Rescuers are asking anyone who hiked the route around May 2nd and noticed
anything unusual to contact Taichung police.
