Taiwan's Ministry of Agriculture has removed Spain from the list of countries that are free of African Swine Fever. This comes after the carcasses of two wild boars were found to be contaminated with the disease near Barcelona on Wednesday.
Starting today shipments of live hogs or pork from Spain are prohibited. Currently, there aren't any direct flights from Spain, decreasing the likelihood of pork entering by plane, but authorities note that shipments via mail or express services are still a vulnerability.
They're warning residents not to receive such shipments from Spain, effective immediately. First-time violators of the new prohibition on Spanish pork will be fined NT$200,000.
