President Tsai Ing-wen has told C-N-N that the threat from Beijing is growing "every day" and, for the first time, has also confirmed the presence of American troops in Taiwan.
Speaking with C-N-N's Will Ripley in an exclusive interview, Tsai described the island as a "beacon" of democracy, and warned that if Taiwan fails, "it will mean people that believe in these democratic values would doubt whether these are values that they should be fighting for."
In response to a question about U.S. special operations forces and Marines having provided training in Taiwan for over a year, Tsai declined to say exactly how many of them are here, but stressed that she has faith in the U.S. coming to Taiwan's defense.
The president also stresses Taiwan's efforts in strengthening its own defensive capabilities. That's President Tsai Ingwen.
