Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai has accepted the resignations of the city's fire chief and the head of the local government's Public Works Bureau.
Both Fire Bureau chief Lee Qing-xiu and Public Works Bureau Director Su Zhi-xun tendered their resignations to take responsibility for the October 14 fire in the Cheng Chong Cheng building that left 46 people dead and 43 other injured.
Lee and Su submitted their resignations immediately following the blaze, but the mayor held off on accepting them at the time - citing a need for both official to assist in the investigation into the cause of the fire.
According to office of the Kaohsiung mayor, Chen only approved of the resignations after he felt that Lee's and Su's cooperation with the team tasked with investigating the fire had wrapped up its initial enquiries.
The investigation team is scheduled to finish its final report tomorrow.
