The Taipei District Court has acquitted former President Ma Ying-jeou and two other defendants on charges of breach of trust and irregular transactions.
The ruling is part of a long-running case related to the selling of three media companies owned by the K-M-T over a decade ago.
Ma, former K-M-T Central Investment company chairman Zhang Zhi-zhen, and investment company general manager Wang Hai-ching, were found not guilty of violating laws in the sale of Central Motion Pictures , China Television and the Broadcasting Corporation of China.
The sales took place between 2005 and 2006, when Ma served as K-M-T chairman.
According to the court, it acquitted the three on the grounds that Ma was not a board member or manager of the K-M-T's Central Investment company and therefore not in a position to commit the crimes listed in the charges.
It also ruled that Zhang and Wang did not do anything illegal in conducting the transactions.
Prosecutors say they are likely to appeal the verdict.
