Referendum Vote Is the New Battleground between DPP and KMT

The December-18 vote on four referendums will be at the center of political wrangling between the ruling DPP and opposition KMT now that lawmaker Chen Bo-wei has been recalled.
KMT chair Eric Chu says his party will resume its national campaign stalled by the recall as soon as possible to push for yes votes on all four referendum proposals.
They include the call for a ban on the import of pork containing residue of the leanness drug ractopamine, which has the highest support level according to a recent poll, and the suggestion that referendums should be held on the same day as general elections.
President Tsai Ing-wen has personally taken on the challenge by ordering all party workers nationwide to "do their best" to win the vote during today's DPP Central Executive Committee meeting.
She especially stresses her nuclear-free policy, as it's the only referendum question where supporters and opponents almost showed equal numbers about whether to revive the fourth nuclear power plant.
Starting this weekend she and Vice President William Lai and Premier Su Zhen-chang will travel around Taiwan to speak to the public about the referendums and garner support.
