Chen: Taiwan Getting Closer to Opening for Foreign Travelers
Posted on 2021-10-27 19:11:01
As Taiwan's immunization rate continues to climb, hope is increasing for foreign travel restrictions to be lifted.
Health Minister Chen Shih-chung says Taiwan is expected to reach 70 percent vaccination rate for eligible people with at least a first dose and a 30 percent rate for full vaccination by tomorrow.
Chen says as more and more people get vaccinated, officials can begin to consider how to ease border controls.
However, he streses that no action will be taken quickly, as there are many factors to consider and take into account.
He does say that Taiwan is now working on its own vaccination passport, which could be issued starting in the new year.
At that time, fully vaccinated individuals may be allowed to enter the country without undergoing quarantine.
