Former President Ma Ying-jeou is calling on the Tsai administration to pass the Cross-Strait Agreement Supervisory Act in order to allow for the screening of the long-stalled Cross-Strait Service Trade Pact.
According to Ma, passage of the act regarding oversight of cross-strait pacts will help facilitate Taiwan's bid to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership.
Ma says by taking such steps, the Tsai administration will not only demonstrate Taiwan's determination to pursue trade liberalization, but will also help clear the way for Taiwan's bid to take part in the C-P-T-P-P.
And Ma is stressing that passage of Cross-Strait Agreement Supervisory Act will also help rebuild mutual trust and allow both side to seek political common ground to pave the way for the resumption of two-way negotiations on cross-strait trade issues.
