Three prosecuted for violent debt collection tactics against TV personality
Posted on 2021-03-02 13:06:04
The Taipei prosecutors have indicted three suspects for illegal debt
collection tactics.

The suspects are part of an illegal debt collection group headed by the
"Tonghua Street Gang," known for violent tactics that had previously been
used against comedian and TV personality Peng Chia-chia.

In August last year, Peng announced he had racked up 240 million N-T in debt
from underground creditors, but said he had paid back almost half of it.

Family reported to police they feared he may have been kidnapped in October
after he went to negotiate with debt collectors.

An investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau found a group headed by
a man surnamed Chiu had been involved in multiple instances of violent debt
collection, in which they would kidnap people, force them to mortgage real
estate or use verbal threats if they were unable to repay money.
