China to Offer Taiwan 'Preferential Policies'
Posted on 2019-03-15 15:06:13
China says it will introduce more ``preferential policies'' for Taiwan.

Chinese Premier Li Ke-qiang says this is to allow the self-governed island's
residents to enjoy the same treatment as mainland Chinese citizens.

Li says new initiatives will be implemented to invite people from Taiwan to
access ``the same development'' and ``work hand-in-hand to realize the dream
for our shared nation.''

This comes after President Tsai Ying-wen recently announced a framework to
counter Beijing's plans to unify with Taiwan under the "one country, two
systems" model it applied to Hong Kong.

Earlier this year in his New Year's address, Chinese President Xi Jin-ping
reiterated China's determination for unification and did not rule out the use
of force if necessary.
