U.S. moves toward normal military sales to Taiwan: official
Posted on 2018-10-12 16:06:13
A US official says Washington is looking to futher normalize arms sales to
Taiwan.

Randall Schriver, U.S. assistant secretary of defense for Asian and Pacific
security affairs, says that the United States is moving toward a "more normal
foreign military sales relationship."

Schriver says the Trump administration views arms sales to Taiwan as foreign
military sales and will push for more normal arms sales.

Last month, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced an arms sales
proposal that covers standard spare parts and the repair and replacement of
spare parts in support of several of Taiwan's aircraft systems.

The sale would be the second U.S. weapons agreement with Taiwan since Donald
Trump took office, after a deal in June 2017.
