Taiwanese returning from China for Lunar New Year without problems
Posted on 2018-02-14 08:25:14
The Mainland Affairs Council says Taiwanese nationals have been largely
successful in buying tickets for flights from China to Taiwan ahead of the
week's Lunar New Year holiday.

The statement comes amid concern that thousands of Taiwan nationals may be
unable to return for the holiday due to a lack of flights.

The council says there are extra flights between eight airports in China,
many of which still have seats available.

While the Straits Exchange Foundation has also confirmed that many
China-based Taiwanese business owner have had no problems getting flight

A report in the United Daily News has quoted the head of a China-based Taiwan
student organization calling for protests outside the Presidential Office
over the government's using them as bargaining chips in dealing with China
due to a lack of flights.

That same organization has also claimed that some 1,000 Taiwanese students
have not been able to book plane tickets home for the holiday after two
Chinese airlines scrapped plans for extra flights during the period.
