Taipei to crackdown on sidewalk cycling
Posted on 2017-07-17 09:14:13
The Taipei City government will be cracking down on people who cycle their
bikes illegally on sidewalks from today.

According to city officials, the crackdown will focus on areas where
designated bike lanes on sidewalks exist.

Anyone caught riding on sidewalks outside of the designated bike lanes or on
any sidewalks that do not have signs allowing use by both pedestrians and
cyclists will face a fine of up to 600 N-T.

City officials say traffic police will begin enforcing the measure this
morning on Xin-Yi, Ren-Ai, Xin-Sheng and Roosevelt roads.

All those roads have a complete network of cycle paths.

The move is part of the city's efforts to promote a cycling protocol as an
urban bike lane network is being constructed and the number of cyclists is
increasing.
