EY backs tougher drugged-driving penalties
Posted on 2026-06-04 15:37:18
Meanwhile,

The Executive Yuan has approved a new plan to crack down on drugs and drugged
driving.

The plan includes tougher penalties, stronger testing and tighter controls on
e-cigarettes.

Officials say manufacturing, transporting or selling etomidate could carry a
maximum death penalty.

Etomidate is the drug often linked to so-called "zombie vape cartridges."

The Cabinet also wants fines of up to 100-thousand NT for possessing
e-cigarettes.

Drugged drivers who cause serious injury or death could lose their licenses
for life.

Repeat drugged drivers could also face extra fines with no upper limit.

The first wave of legal amendments is expected to be sent to the Legislature
this month.
